Measures Taken by our company concerning risks or opportunities in the community

  • Air Pollution Control Management
The Company has already been using natural gas as fuel in our manufacturing processes. In addition, we actively maintain and service our production equipment during production downtimes. Moreover, our pollution control equipment undergoes regular replacement of consumables, and we have strengthened measures to prevent fugitive emissions. As a result, air pollution emissions have been significantly reduced compared to the past, and there is no negative impact on the local community environment.
  • Waste Management
The Company manages the industrial waste generated during production based on its characteristics. We regularly monitor, analyze, and effectively control the waste's properties and quantity, while also working to expand channels for resource recycling and reuse. All waste is handled by a public-private waste removal, treatment, and recycling organization approved by the competent authority, in compliance with regulations. We ensure that waste is properly disposed of and report waste removal details through the required waste disposal forms. We also track and verify the final treatment status of the waste, fully adhering to legal requirements to prevent any illegal dumping that could harm the environment.
  • Wastewater Management
The Company has established a wastewater treatment facility with a total capacity of 1,800 tons per day to treat wastewater containing heavy metals from the acid pickling process. The treated wastewater meets discharge standards before being released into the Kaohsiung Linhai Linyuan & Dafa Industrial Parks Combined Wastewater Treatment Plant, operated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The discharge volume is monitored in real-time using flow meters. In the first half of the year, the cumulative wastewater discharge amounted to 216,097 tons, with an average daily treatment and discharge of 1,187.24 tons. The discharged water quality is regularly sampled and tested according to legal requirements, with third-party testing organizations conducting the analysis. The results show a Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) of 14.3 mg/L, Suspended Solids (S.S.) of 2.8 mg/L, Total Chromium of 0.023 mg/L, Nickel content of 0.014 mg/L, and trace amounts of other heavy metals, ensuring there is no significant environmental impact on the surrounding area, nor any special habitat-related concerns.
  • Greenhouse Gas Management
The Company conducts an annual internal inventory of greenhouse gas emissions and commissions a third-party verification organization to perform external verification. In 2023, the total greenhouse gas emissions of the Company amounted to 86,380.268 metric tons of CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at 29,842.3861 metric tons of CO2e and Scope 2 emissions at 56,537.8815 metric tons of CO2e. Every year, the Company also plans self-directed emission reduction projects. For 2024, we have outlined six energy-saving initiatives, including the installation of an electric control panel (Panel B) for the cooling circulation water system in the steelmaking expansion area, updating the 270HP pump, upgrading the electric control system for steelmaking water treatment, improving the piping and management of the steelmaking air conditioning water system, updating the central air conditioning system on the second floor of the rolling mill building, and upgrading the lighting system at the factory of Tang Eng Iron Works Co., Ltd. These initiatives are expected to save a total of 1,668,389.47 kWh of electricity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1,026.465 metric tons of CO2e.
  • Chemical Management
The Company manages hazardous chemicals through a system of registration, inspections, and regular reviews. Annually, we report the prioritized chemicals used by each department within the deadline set by the central competent authority. For designated specific chemicals, we have established emergency response teams in accordance with relevant regulations and provide annual training to the personnel involved, covering first aid, evacuation procedures, and other emergency response knowledge.

Measures Taken by our company concerning risks or opportunities in the community

  • Air Pollution Control Management
Our company has significantly reduced its production volume compared to the past. We continue to perform maintenance on our production equipment. In terms of the manufacturing process, we have long been using natural gas as fuel. We also regularly replace consumables for pollution control equipment and enhance the control of fugitive pollution sources. As a result, the emissions of air pollutants have decreased compared to the past, and there have been no negative impacts on the local community environment.
  • Waste Management
The industrial waste generated during our company's production processes is managed according to its characteristics. We regularly monitor, analyze, and effectively control the characteristics and quantity of waste. We are committed to expanding avenues for resource recycling.
Waste cleanup is carried out by waste disposal facilities approved by the competent authorities in accordance with regulations. This ensures proper cleanup, treatment, and reuse of waste. We also comply with regulations by reporting waste transport manifests and tracking and confirming the final disposal status of waste. We strictly adhere to legal requirements, and there is no illegal disposal harmful to the environment.
  • Wastewater Management
Our company is located in the Kaohsiung Seaside Industrial Service Center, and during the steelmaking and rolling production processes, we generate heavy metal acidic and alkaline wastewater of approximately 1,800 CMD. The wastewater is subjected to water quality testing at our wastewater treatment facilities, and the results consistently meet the regulatory standards. The discharged wastewater is sent to the Kaohsiung Lin-Yuan Da-Fa Industrial Zone Joint Wastewater Treatment Plant, where the discharge volume is monitored using flow meters. Water quality is regularly sampled and tested in accordance with the law. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) is 16 mg/L, suspended solids (SS) are 1.5 mg/L, and nickel content is 0.035 mg/L. All other heavy metal contents are extremely low, ensuring no adverse impact on the surrounding environment and no special requirements for habitat protection.
Our company has developed a water-saving strategy and implemented water-saving facilities. This includes improving system design, using high-efficiency equipment, and recycling processes. By creating a water balance chart, installing flow meters for control, and optimizing processes to reduce water usage, we have reduced wastewater discharge and significantly decreased our dependence on water resources. For example, in the cooling water systems for steel rolling and steelmaking processes, we employ a recycling scheme that involves precipitation and settling, followed by filtration and recycling to the cooling water process system. We also regularly measure the conductivity of cooling water to minimize discharge. In 2022, we saved approximately 400,210 metric tons of water and recycled approximately 301,270 metric tons of water, achieving a water recycling rate of 88.87% throughout the plant.
  • Greenhouse Gas Management
Our company conducts internal assessments of greenhouse gas emissions annually and commissions third-party verification organizations to perform external verification. In 2022, our total greenhouse gas emissions amounted to 103,364.389 metric tons of CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at 35,304.9206 metric tons of CO2e and Scope 2 emissions at 68,059.4682 metric tons of CO2e.
Each year, we plan independent reduction projects. For 2023, we have planned four energy-saving projects, including the upgrade of the electric control system for cooling water circulation in the steelmaking expansion area, the update of the electric control panel (Panel B) in the steelmaking expansion area, pump replacements (325HP), and lighting updates in the TAN ENG IRON WORKS CO., LTD. factory area. These projects are expected to save a total of 1,167,809.78 kWh of electricity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 578.066 metric tons of CO2e.
  • Chemical Management
Our company manages hazardous chemicals through registration, inspections, and regular reviews. Annually, we declare priority managed chemicals used by various units within the timeframes designated by the central regulatory authorities. For specific designated chemical substances, we establish rescue teams in accordance with relevant regulations. Additionally, we provide training to relevant personnel on first aid and evacuation procedures every year.
