In order to protect the rights and interests of employees, in addition to labor-related laws and regulations, Tang Eng Company has formulated work-related rules and various personnel management regulations, and has signed a group agreement with the labor union (covering 100% of employees with labor union membership qualification) and regularly hold labor-management meetings to fully protect the legitimate rights and interests of employees.
Tang Eng and the stainless steel factory industry labor union signed the group agreement for the first time on July 3, 2006 after the Company’s privatization. Group agreement negotiations regarding workers' well-being are held every three years. The group agreement signed on October 30, 2015 includes nine chapters, including general principles, labor contracts, working hours, trade union activities, work remuneration, welfare and safety, retirement, severance, pensions, labor meetings and labor disputes, and supplementary provisions, with a total of 56 articles. Among them, The Company agrees that the profits of an enterprise should be shared with employees, and there is a profit sharing clause in the collective agreement, that is, "When Party A has a surplus after making up the accumulated losses in the operating year, it shall distribute a quota or a certain ratio of the surplus as employee remuneration or bonus, and the quota or ratio shall be negotiated by Party A and Party B and handled according to the articles of association of Party A.“
On June 9th, 2022, Tang Eng started negotiations with the enterprise trade unions on the draft of the new version of the group agreement. After 7 negotiation meetings over 2 years and 4 months, and that the second submission to the Board of Directors for review was made in 2024. It is expected that through the revision of the group agreement, fairer and more reasonable working conditions can be standardized and the rights and interests of workers can be more completely guaranteed.
The union represents the employees to express their opinions and suggestions in order to push for more reasonable work environment and welfare, help company operation, and shape the positive image for the labors and company. The union was restructured on 2011/5/12 to ensure members welfare, improve members' skills and knowledge, develop manufacturing business, advance members' lives, and enhance members' coherence.
Besides regular management and labor meetings and one labor member in the Board, Tang Eng Iron Works' employees' suggestion can be sent to the Board directly as an implementation of industry democracy.
The union has really strived for labor welfare and done it in a rational and peaceful way, like, communicating through the management and labor meeting, labor council talking to the management, and collective bargaining.
Lately, besides striving for labor welfare and elevating member services, the union also join external labor federation unions to really look into and care about labor related issues and speak for labors and strive for benefits.
The general meeting of members is the highest authority of the labor union, with 72 representatives from all first and second level units (according to the regional rules for representative member elections). During adjournment periods, the general meeting handles all trade union affairs. The meeting consists of 8 directors, who are elected by member representatives. There is also a chairman (directly elected by members) who represents the labor union in conducting daily affairs. The chairman has a secretariat and 4 task groups to promote the daily affairs, and a board of supervisors to supervise the operation of the general meeting. Except for the Chairman and General Manager representing the Company, all employees of Tang Eng Company have the right and obligation to join the labor union. Members of the labor union cover all colleagues with membership qualification.
